Mindfulness meditation is defined by Jon Kabat-Zinn as "paying attention on purpose in the present moment nonjudgmentally." We take the time and space to feel our breath or body, and notice what is really going on right here right now. It is a simple practice, connecting us with what is going on in the present moment so that we can work with it and respond more appropriately in our bodies, minds, & lives.
When we cultivate attention, the mind slows down and gets a break from the stressful thinking patterns. The nervous systems calms, the mind calms, the body restores to better health. Minduflness meditation both increases relaxation and at the same time allows us to uncover patterns of tension and stress in the body. We learn to cultivate wiser relationships to our body and how we respond to pain and stress, both in the body and mind.
